Harmony Inc. has a very fascinating history. Breaking away from the Sweet Adeline’s in the 1950’s because of their racial discrimination policies at that time, Harmony Inc. was established in 1959.
It is a non-profit an international organization of women singers, whose purpose is to empower all women through education, friendship, and a cappella singing in the barbershop style. Within the six areas of Harmony Inc., Sing Niagara is a chapter member of Area 5.
Since inception, the organization has expanded from its roots in Rhode Island to include chapters in the United States and Canada from California to Newfoundland, and from Manitoba to Florida.
Annual conventions serve a variety of purposes: to educate members in the performance of the craft, to update the membership on the status of the organization, to bring the membership together to see the best perform and to encourage friendship and camaraderie. Harmony is dedicated to abide by its democratic principles and maintain its unique “Blend with Friendship”.
