Many exciting opportunities to sing and entertain within our community happen each year, with benefit performances as part of our calendar. We are an organization of women who care about their community.

Sing Niagara is proud to have performed at the public opening of the St Catharines First Ontario Place Performing Arts Centre in November 2015.

The Barbershop Community is vibrant in Niagara and Worldwide too.

As well as Sing Niagara Women’s a Cappella Chorus, locally we have A Cappella Niagara, a men’s barbershop chorus.

A traditional Niagara event originating with The Singing Saints from St Catharines and now hosted by A Cappella Niagara men’s chorus, is the annual corn roast. For fifty years local barbershoppers, and groups from the surrounding areas have entertained each other, while feasting on sweet corn, hot dogs, burgers and beer. A motto of Harmony is “family friendly”. Barbershoppers entertain each other. Every gathering is full of fun and music.

community-4The Barbershop community is worldwide. The popularity of barbershop singing continues to spread with the music being performed  by men’s and ladies’ quartets and choruses far and wide. Wherever you go, the Barbershop community welcomes you. In the photo Sing Niagara members join with singers from other Harmony choruses, for some fun on the “Bourbon Tour” at the International Convention in Louisville Kentucky.

One chorus member said, “When I moved to a new city, I located the local chorus and instantly found 40 new friends. I never realized how much the barbershop community supported me until then. It was a wonderful feeling.”

The Sing Niagara Chorus Community

We have members of all ages, our most senior is 80+ and our youngest member just became a new mom. In this family, your social status, your education, or your age is of no importance to us. Singing is the family glue. Like any family our planned social activities such as our Christmas party, the “Afterglow” following a concert or simply having a coffee at a “Timmy’s” after a performance are part of our chorus social life.

We are an important family. We not only celebrate special occasions, but also support each other in times of illness and sadness. One of our younger members said one day “I don’t see any age difference; all I see is a group of women who care about each other, and are excited about singing. It is a wonderful sisterhood and I am fortunate to be part of it.”

community-3Testimonial: Barb Vale – Joining “The Tune Twisters” { original name of the chorus} in 1967 was one of the best decisions I ever made. Chorus and Harmony Inc. offered me a lifetime of fun, excitement, challenges, and lasting friendships. Who could ask for anything more?
